All going well (apart from not having enough time and battery to keep this blog up to date!). Finished stage 3 in 35 days – that’s 3000 km, with my daily average increasing, something I hope to keep building on (without overdoing it!). Had a few days of rain showers, but am all dried out now, and batteries all recharged. Now reached the end of the Alaska Highway (Dawson Creek), with the next target being Edmonton by Canada day (1st July). I also appear to be sufficiently close to civilisation for the tracker to be working! (Note that times are BST – I’ve not been cycling through the night!). A few of photos from the past few days:
Tailwinds are great – until this is the weather they are carrying – no stopping for a rest!
Lovely smell of pine whenever one of these overtakes:
Baerbel and Johan – lovely couple from Germany/Holland:

Sun sets on Stage 3

Great to see all the photos – hope the maps dried out. May you have lots of tail winds and not too many showers. xxx

That’s some truck, no wonder you smell the pine, I’m sure breathing it in could be used as a cure for something or other. Congratulations on reaching Dawson Creek. I managed to get a street view of what appears to be the end of the Alaska Highway, at its junction with 8 Street. There”s a tall building at a roundabout with lettering Alberta Pool, and Art Gallery. End of a stage! Dad

Thanks for that. This is the official start https://keithsbigride.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/wp-1467060768271.jpg
– its in the middle of a crossroads with traffic lights – tricky getting a shot without any traffic !

Your tracker says you’ve just crossed into Alberta – well done! Do they make much of a deal about going from one province to another or just a dusty sign proclaiming them to be the ‘Friendly’ or ‘Family’ (or other such nonsense) province? Nice sunset pic btw!

Well spotted – that was yesterday’s target after a late departure from Dawson Creek.

They make a big deal – first the official sign https://keithsbigride.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/wp-1467060352993.jpg
Then loads of regulatory signs – same messages on both sides of the border – classic two committees and two budgets stuff.
It was a cracking sunset – shame I was going east at the time – I kept on having to stop and turn around to see it properly!

Just crossed into ssaskatchewan – complete with one street closed looking villages with big silos, wind howling through the phone lines and metal signs swinging and creaking in the wind!

Loving following this, your tales are so inspiring! You inspired me all the way out onto Beauport Common and the Railway Track for a 4 mile jog anyway. No wild animals but the Scarecrow Trail provided some spotting entertainment! Theme this year is The Royals – my personal favourite was the King of the Swingers from the Jungle Book!

Hey Keith,
Hope you’re well. Everything looks like it’s going great. Just awesome to hear how helpful people are in the locations you’ve been passing through.
Will continue to track your updates and look forward to reading more.
Safe travels!

Thanks for that – I’ve got another update on the way! There have been a couple of dramas since the last update – but nothing thats stopped me so far. People are continuing to be generous and the drivers have been great – no trouble there at all. How’s it going at JT? Are you still cycling to work?

Ah, what’s negative to you makes a great read for us lot. š Happy to hear you’ve persevered without any real hitch though!
Still on the bike. Loving cycling still. Strength has improved, and the various bits of gear I’ve picked up have made it easier and more enjoyable (shades for one!!).
In terms of work: All’s well and fairly normal. Some expected and unexpected things have happened since you left the shores of Jersey. I’m actually departing the company come end of August / start of September, so will potentially miss your return! Plenty to discuss though, so will have to no doubt catch up when you’re back on the rock – either in office or out, depending on dates…
Just glad to see the updates are still fairly regular and that you’re surviving. Bears would be enough to send me packing; those monsters are pretty darn frightening – albeit reasonably docile from the clips I’ve seen. I’ve got the muscle and tough guy attitude, but only feel at home in front of a Linux terminal.
Enjoy the weekend Mr. Davis!
